Inner Thoughts Virus [Accidental Handwritten Post] (shaddup it's still the 13th here)

The blind spots where are they...oh, there they are! A little off to the side of sight. Like usual. It’s filled in with an illusion-- pretty easy to pick out when trying to look at something detailed like this drawing. Thought it was fun to do so, when I was younger. But...after seeing that diagram of inside the eye, I figured out that the blind spots we all have while looking around the world are completely natural.

They exist 'cause of that ‘optic nerve’ thing, from what I remember.

.........

So that means I’ll never see the natural truth no matter how hard I try because the gods didn’t design the eyes to allow them to see the complete truth. I’ll…never see the truth because I physically can’t. Which means I naturally create an illusion. Something fake. That I end up painting anyways.

So my drawing…
Illusion
That’s an illusion.
If I paint what I really can see, this is the truth:
Truth
Right?

I dunno. But...I guess that’s fine. Just makes things harder. But what does that mean? What were the gods thinking? I don’t understand.

Or maybe is it that a part of truth has gotta include illusion? Am I just missing something here?

What are you talking about?

[identity profile] makewayforroze.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Be careful, the virus is posting your thoughts too. Everyone can read them.

Some have seemed to really enjoy that.

I don't understand the second painting very well. What did you mean by blind spots?

[identity profile] sotobas-lot.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't call it fake. Blind spots aren't a reflection of reality. It's completely based on the eye itself. If anything, blind spots are the illusion. It's why the brain will usually fill it in.

[identity profile] sotobas-lot.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
There are other entroptic distortions. Then there's nearsightedness, farsightedness... some animals with different eye structures, ones that don't lead to blind spots, have different visual experiences than we do.

Think of it of there being more than one truth.

[identity profile] sotobas-lot.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice going, you've made it worse. Your best friend is the artistic type, you should be a little better at this.

It's... more like our brains are wired to get the most relevant accurate take on the world possible. So, it perceives things on a scale generally relevant to us. Distance, dimension, color, motion... We don't naturally see at a molecular level.

[ Natsume doesn't even realize he's posting his comment, he was just looking at these pictures. Stupid virus. ]

They look like soot sprites...

[identity profile] namereturning.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
...I didn't mean to reply with that. Isn't it... if you wanted it to be right the way you see it without your brain making adjustments.. wouldn't you have to draw it upside-down and grainy? I was actually awake in class that day. Huh.

[identity profile] namereturning.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know a lot about that but... If you turn your eyes to see that part fully, it should be the same information, right?

Get the gods to change your eyes.

if you can't trust your body, what can you trust?

[identity profile] sandinmyboots.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Being imperfect. Unable to do your craft properly.

[identity profile] truthinfortune.livejournal.com 2011-08-26 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Those are some rather deep thoughts there, Issun.

What you forget, though, is that the eye's blind spots are fixed, but by simply changing your perspective, you can uncover more of the "truth". As we look about the world, the brain takes in the images that we can see from one perspective, and patches them together with images we see from another perspective in order to create a seamless whole.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that one can be taken in by illusions only is one maintains a single, rigid perspective. By allowing oneself to be open to many different perspectives, one can ascertain the "truth".

[identity profile] truthinfortune.livejournal.com 2011-08-26 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That's right. But you know, some people say that an artist's unique perspective of the world allows them to reveal the "hidden truths" that the ordinary eye cannot see. Only an artist can reveal beauty in even the most prosaic of objects.

[identity profile] truthinfortune.livejournal.com 2011-08-27 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's very true.

Tell me something, Issun. When did you begin to pursue painting seriously? Did you always know you were an artist? Or was it something you discovered later in life?
